CUBICITY: SLIDE PUZZLE is a puzzle game developed and published by Pirate Parrot. The goal of the game is to slide each animal into the spot with their matching image.
Everything in the game, from the animals to the levels themselves, are cube shaped. The color palette the game uses is good and consistent. The graphics are reasonable for the type of game, but are not especially detailed. For instance, the lion has a mane, a face, and tail, but there is no texture for the fur. Nonetheless, this does not inhibit enjoyment of the game.
The music within the game is pleasant and repetitive. However, it can be turned off should the player choose to.
The game is made up of different levels, with each stage being more complex than the last. The challenges within each platform include changes in the layout of each subsequent level, adding spaces with special abilities (such as yellow tiles and signs), limiting character moves, and so on. For each level, a set number of moves are allowed. Because of this limitation, careful planning and strategy are required. If the player runs out of moves for that stage, then the game is over. However, the player is given repeated chances to complete the level. Or, if the player is halfway through a round and knows they will not or cannot win, they can always restart the level. This is helpful, as it allows players to retry the stage without waiting for a failed level. There were many times throughout the game where I had to replay certain stages over again, because I ran out of moves.
After each level is complete, the player is awarded stars or coins. Up to three yellow or blue stars can be earned per stage. I do not know what the different colors of stars symbolize. Coins are useful in purchasing upgrades for animals, such as adding a squirrel to the shoulder of a goat. These upgrades, as far as I can tell, do not serve any strategic purpose. I have not found any other use for the coins. In addition to stars, the player can unlock new animals or towns people. The new animals can be used in new levels, but I am unsure what purpose the people serve.
As the player progresses through the levels, the number of animals given and the number of moves allowed increases. After completing approximately 70 stages, there can be at least six animals in play and roughly 40 moves allowed.
Another feature of CUBICITY: SLIDE PUZZLE is the assist items. Objects are introduced one by one over the course of the game. These include ice cubes, yellow tiles, a reverse button, bombs, and a teleportation circle. The yellow tiles and teleportation circles are only present in certain levels. The yellow tiles send the player in the opposite direction while the teleportation circles transport the player from one end of the stage to another. Ice cubes can be used to direct the animals while bombs can be placed beside the animals to move them over to a certain spot. A limited amount of ice cubes and bombs are given at each stage however, so it is best to use them sparingly.
The graphics, music, and game mechanics contribute nicely to the overall game experience. The use of coins, upgrades, and unlocking new animals and people could use more explanation. Overall, I would give CUBICITY: SLIDE PUZZLE an eight out of ten.

Nintendo Switch Review
I am a college student studying English at Michigan State University. My first video game was Icewind Dale I for the PC and I’ve been playing games ever since. Whenever I’ve had a particularly difficult day, games such as The Sims help me unwind. Some of my favorite games include the Bioshock, Fallout, Mass Effect, Wolfenstein, and latest Tomb Raider series.
