Dreadlands is a turn based skirmish game, developed by Blackfox Studios and published by Fatshark. The game is set up in a post-apocalyptic universe. Dreadlands’s character setup looks like right out of a Borderlands game.
Dreadlands is turn based strategy game, in which the gameplay feels similar to X-COM games. Dreadlands starts off with a tutorial on how to play and starts off the game with a settlement, where we get the mission and are provided with different character classes. The map has different locations provided when we move out of the settlement.
Once we get to the quest location, Dreadlands starts off with providing different cards that have various special abilities to be used during the turns. The player has the option to re-roll one of the cards before the start of the match. There are characters you can add to the team, and each character gets about 2 actions each turn. Players have the option to move and attack or use both actions together to move extra spaces. Some of the characters are ranged as well, but ranged attackers have less change of hitting.
After all the enemies are dead, you have option to explore and collect all the remaining loot stuff. There are a lot of other management skills that need to be done like ammo and medical kits and currencies. During a battle, the teammates can have long lasting injuries that affect the future combats. Also the ammo needs to be restocked.
There are lot of different exploration options available and a lot of other classes and ways you can play the game. Dreadlands is very interesting and looking at the game on Early Access, it has a lot of things to be improved with gameplay overall. I am looking forward to the new updates Blackfox Studios is going to bring out in the future.
