Drill Deal – Oil Tycoon, by developer A2 Softworks, is a fun resource management game about building and managing your very own oil rig. Your job is to make sure your rig runs with maximum efficiency while also paying attention and taking care of all your workers. Along the way you have to deal with all sorts of threats like weather, fire, natural disasters, pirates and more. The game also features plenty of maps to unlock and choose from each with their own challenges and benefits for more replayability.
When you start the game, you have two maps to choose from, the first one being a tutorial map. In the tutorial, you are walked through everything you have to do in order to grow and maintain your oil rig, from giving your workers places to eat and sleep to helming expeditions for resources. There is a lot to do and while the tutorial explains everything it can be a little hard to follow at times, but it does not take too much to get the hang of it all. After the tutorial, you can move onto the first map called the North Sea, a map that features floating mines that your main objective is to destroy. Along with the main objective, there are secondary objectives that include things like building platforms and hiring a certain number of employees. In order to expand and grow, you have to invest into the technology tree to unlock new things; on top of that there are clients and contracts that you can use to get money. The graphics are simple and blocky but the style is cute and works really well. Overall, this is a fun game with lots to do.
Drill Deal – Oil Tycoon, while it is fun, does have a few bugs in it. The game crashed on me a couple of times once on start up and another time when I accidentally tabbed out of the game. There were also some frame rate issues and a few times where the workers would get stuck in different areas or behind objects. These bugs do not happen too often but are a bit frustrating when they do happen. The only other issue I had was with the complexity – they throw a lot at you quickly and there is a bit of a curve in managing it all, the tutorial is helpful in that regard if a bit long. The game, overall, could use a bit of refinement.
Drill Deal – Oil Tycoon is a cute strategy game where it’s your job to build and manage your own oil rig. Work on managing your equipment while also keeping track of your workers. There are many maps to unlock, each with their own dangers and objectives, on top of that there are many threats to look out for including pirates and weather. While there are a lot of things to explore in this game, there are also a few bugs with game crashes and workers getting stuck. I am giving Drill Deal – Oil Tycoon a 7 out of 10 because it is a fun tycoon game but has a few frustrating bugs that could be fixed.
You can purchase Drill Deal – Oil Tycoon for $14.99 or play the demo right now for PC via Steam.
I enjoy a wide variety of games from intricate survival/adventure games to simple platformers. I am also a sucker for a good story game.
