Epic Car Factory is a management and building simulation game developed by Epic Devs LLC and published by Assemble Entertainment. Epic Car Factory puts players in the proverbial driver’s seat, as it gives them the opportunity to act as the CEO of their own car companies. Players get full say over how their companies are run, from developing cars all the way to entering their cars in competitions to attract more fans. With this responsibility, however, comes the crux of the game – the need to thrive in a competitive market in order to stay afloat financially.
Epic Car Factory at its core is a game that tests players’ abilities to create desirable products while utilizing every possible advantage they have. The game begins with a very brief tutorial that introduces players to their factories and some of the actions that they can execute. Tutorial pages also come up the first time players access each individual page from the menu that is easily accessible by clicking on the bottom left of the screen in-game. By doing this, Epic Car Factory makes it so that its players always know the utility of the actions they take.
After this tutorial, players are given free reign over their factories. Financial limitations constrain players from engaging in the costlier actions in the game, but they can immediately begin developing their first car. Even though initially only given the choice between three models, players can use their profits from sales to buy more choices.
Players get to choose which aspects of their car to develop the most. For instance, the game gives options to focus on a given car’s mileage, comfort, speed, or looks or to emphasize research. Choosing between the choices of low price, medium price, and high price dictate which type of market your car will appeal to. During the building process, players also can choose which of their workers will work on specific aspects of the car. After the car creation process is completed, the game gives a rating for the car that indicates how much profit the car will bring in. After every in-game year, players can register their cars for competitions in races that enable their factories to get more fans and consequently more business.
The game opens up a lot in terms the actions that players can take once they get they start making profit. Players make profit in-game primarily through car sales, but the ability to complete contracts can bring in additional money. Random economic events also provide opportunities for extra income, but also have the possibility of proving harmful to players’ money stores.
There’s a lot of choice in what players can spend the money they accumulate on. As mentioned before, they can buy a multitude of new car models. They can also conduct market research that tells what type of focus and pricing are hot on the market, which translates to telling players what aspects they should focus on when creating their cars. Players can spend money to advertise and market for their factories in various ways.
Moreover, players can hire and fire workers. Factories prepopulate with two workers, whom players can spend money to train in order to become more efficient. Players can also put advertisements out to attract new workers. New workers possess different skillsets than the original two and can greatly increase the productivity of players’ factories.
Epic Devs LLC uses the medium of the workers to imbue Epic Car Factory with humor. The workers’ names are puns on famous fictional and nonfictional personages, which can lead to some funny moments. Some of the advertising techniques in the game, especially at lower costs, are also rather amusing.
The in-game music positively augments the experience of playing Epic Car Factory. The graphics are not top of the line, but this is a conscious choice on the part of the developers. The game emphasizes management above all else, as is apparent in all of its facets. Lastly, the ability to speed through events up to 4x as quickly as they would naturally occur in-game allows players to work through their projects and see them come to fruition quicker.
Epic Car Factory is a good but not great simulation video game. It does a lot of things right, such as giving players a lot of choice, but the gameplay gets monotonous after a while. Car aficionados and lovers of sim games will most likely enjoy Epic Car Factory, but the game does not truly stand out from competitors.

I'm a recent graduate of Columbia University. Gaming has been a passion of mine my entire life; I enjoy everything from RPGs and FPSs to stealth and narrative-driven games. I love the deeply immersive quality that good video games inherently possess, and am looking forward to highlighting games worthy of acclaim. When I'm not studying or reading, you can catch me playing games like Uncharted, Dishonored, The Witcher 3, and Far Cry.
