FIFA 22 Review for PlayStation 4

FIFA 22 is the latest entry in the FIFA series. With better graphics and enhanced gameplay, EA has delivered exactly what FIFA lovers have come to expect. The star of the show is the card-collecting and team building mode: Ultimate Team (a.k.a. FUT). The reworked goalkeeping mechanics and the new animations make the game feel smooth and responsive. The addition of new teams and leagues such as the Indian Super League is sure to invite new gamers to the already huge player base FIFA has.

FIFA 22 Review for PlayStation 4

There are several ways to play FIFA 22. One can jump right into a football game with one’s friends online or with multiple controllers. Or one can jump into a manager career mode and lead one’s favorite club or a new club entirely on the path to glory. If one wants to play as only one player on the entire pitch instead of playing as the entire team one can dive into 2 more modes: player career and Pro Clubs. Volta is another surprisingly underplayed mode, which allows you to play street soccer in 3v3, 4v4 and 5v5 modes coupled with a slew of customizations. Volta also includes some party games for hours of fun with friends.

The Ultimate Team mode is the showstopper being the main reason why FIFA fans keep coming back for more. Building your own team using real world players entices a large amount of soccer fans from around the world giving this game mode its own following. The advancement in terms of how strong one’s team is compared to other ones is rather slow and takes hours of gameplay. Only the most dedicated players get the very best players as rewards at the end of weekend leagues. Of course, it is still possible to purchase the in-game currency (FIFA points) to purchase more “packs” (essentially loot boxes) for a better chance to getting those player cards without participating in the weekend leagues.

FIFA 22 has made incremental but important changes from FIFA 21. The player career mode has received a much-needed overhaul with a skill-tree style development for your avatar and in game objectives. The manager career mode now allows you to create a fictional club to replace an actual one and play as this new team. The graphics look much better with more realistic shadows and ball physics. The new goalkeeper mechanics also make the game feel much closer to real life. FIFA 22 has lost the licenses to a few key clubs in Serie A (Juventus, Atalanta, Roma, and Lazio) to their rivals Konami but still boasts a very huge number of licensed clubs and players eclipsing its competition. FIFA 22 adds 6 more leagues to an already huge roster of teams.

Certain things that are still an unfortunate part of this game include the network issues faced during online games, particularly those not in the Ultimate Team mode and kits selected by the game sometimes leads to the same or similar colors being chosen leading to confusion. But apart from these minor issues, FIFA 22 is perhaps the best soccer game one can play right now.

If you like the previous FIFA games and just soccer in general, FIFA 22 could be the game for you. It provides a tried and tested soccer experience loved by soccer fans around the world.

My first ever video game console was a Game Boy Advanced SP and I remember playing sidescrolling platformers for hours. I have not stopped ever since and my love for video game consoles has only grown to include a (now broken) PS2, a PSP, an Xbox 360, a Nintendo Wii, a Nintendo DS and a PS4.
