Lethal, vicious, and beautiful. Nothing stands in your way as you slice and shoot down the enemies in your path. Despite being a deadly super-soldier, you do not underestimate your foes as you continue to dodge their attacks and bullets. The fate of the city, maybe even the world, is resting on your strong shoulders and there is nothing stopping you from finishing your mission. Developed and published by Big Blue Bubble, Forgone is a gorgeously detailed 2-D action platformer that will have you falling in love with the game, the visuals, and the incredible heroine you play.
Unlike most games, there is no beginning backstory to your character or a lengthy exposition. A brief introduction into the game controls on how to swing your blade and jump are all that is given to you before you are thrown headfirst into action. The more you fight and advance your way through the maze-like levels, the more you will learn of your character’s history and the world around you. The only piece of knowledge that you can confidently rely on is that you are a lean, mean, fighting machine.
Similar to most platform games, loot is scattered throughout in the forms of crates and fallen enemies. Collect, upgrade and equip powerful weapons to aid in your journey as both soldiers and creatures will only become more challenging the further you progress. Keep a keen eye on your surroundings as you can find even more treasures through hidden rooms and passages. Aside from a customizable branching skill tree, your heroine will also be able to learn special abilities such as self-healing, charged attacks, and even a powered up super Saiyan-like mode. In Foregone, there is no such a thing as slacking off, there is only leveling up.
Despite being a deadly combination of Captain America and Xena: Warrior Princess, the opponents you will encounter are not easy pushovers. Like most enemies in video games, the creatures and soldiers you face will have set, predictable patterns. Learn their ways of attack to your advantage and by the end of the level, you will be rewarded with a classic boss battle. If you “die”, do not worry about having to start the entire level again. Teleportation gates act as automatic save points to keep your major progress in place.
Hard to stop playing, but easy to jump back in, Forgone is an incredibly enjoyable game. It is both simple to understand and challenging enough to keep you coming back for more. Whether it’s the gorgeously rendered 2-D design or the throwback to the nostalgic love for the games of times past, there is just something special about this platformer.
PROS: Amazing and unique graphics, addicting, easy to pick up where you last left off.
CONS: A bit difficult to play on the PC as it is easy to accidentally hit the wrong key, especially when you are panicking and trying your best not to die.
SCORE: 9/10

PC Review
Video games have always been a huge influence in my life and have definitely shaped me to who I am today . Some of my best memories growing up were the many adventures and stories I was able to experience and become immersed in. If my hands aren't either covered in clay, typing, editing, creating, or helping shoving food in my mouth, they would either be gripped to a controller, tapping away at the screen of my phone, or clicking away on my PC. I am always up for trying something new because why live just one life when you can live many.
