Golden Treasure: The Great Green Review for Steam

Golden Treasure: The Great Green Review for Steam

Has your normal human life been too mundane? Do you need some treasure hunting or fire-breathing in your life to spice it up? Why not try starting a new life as a freshly hatched dragon? Developed by Dreaming Door Studios, Golden Treasure: The Great Green is a gorgeously illustrated adventure game filled with danger, challenges, and glory. Your choices are what will determine how you develop your strengths and your destiny. Just don’t forget to chose wisely as your path to become a mighty Draak will not be an easy one.

Your story begins before you have even been born. After you hatch, your top priority is to eat, learn, and continue to survive in a daunting land. It’s an eat or be eaten world and as you grow bigger, so does your appetite. You will learn how to hunt, explore, and most importantly how to fight as there are larger and more ruthless creatures roaming about. The four elements: earth, water, fire, and air, will guide your path and will be the basis of your strength. Depending on your answers and actions, you will gain more experience to unlock new abilities.

You aren’t the only Draak that is trying to survive and rule their own land. You must also fight for dominance, beat out arrogant competitors, and survive disturbing creatures such as the dreaded No-Tails. However, not every battle is fought with sharpened teeth and fire. You must also build your reputation as the fiercest Draak of the land. Don’t give in to silly temptations or threats as standing your ground and using your wit to solve riddles is just as powerful as a well-timed strike.

Golden Treasure: The Great Green Review for Steam

Golden Treasure: The Great Green is filled with lovely visuals and multiple side quests for you to discover. It is difficult in the beginning as you spend a majority of your time hunting and just trying to survive. The game’s autosave feature can be a double-edged sword as you needn’t worry about saving your progress, but if you accidentally make a mistake or you regret a decision and want to go back to fix it, you will be unable to. If you lose all three of your lives, then you must restart at the beginning of the chapter which can be time-consuming and frustrating. Luckily, you get to retain your gained experience with your elements; giving you a slight advantage rather than starting as a newborn hatchling.

Despite the game starting off slow, as you progress and grow you will be able to fully enjoy the experience of a mighty fire-breathing predator. With so many different paths to chose and decisions to make, you can play this fantastical RPG for hours and still find something different. What kind of Draak will you chose to become? A benevolent one known throughout as kind and wise? Or the one that will bring ruin and fear?

PROS: Fascinating story, gorgeous illustrations, great sound design, and you get to be a dragon (aka Draak).

CONS: Can start off frustrating, the many different fonts are usually hard to read, the battle system takes practice and getting used to.

SCORE: 7/10

Video games have always been a huge influence in my life and have definitely shaped me to who I am today . Some of my best memories growing up were the many adventures and stories I was able to experience and become immersed in. If my hands aren't either covered in clay, typing, editing, creating, or helping shoving food in my mouth, they would either be gripped to a controller, tapping away at the screen of my phone, or clicking away on my PC. I am always up for trying something new because why live just one life when you can live many.
