I Am Jesus Christ Preview for Steam

In most games, players will play characters that eventual develop into the heroes of the story. And what’s more exciting than becoming a valiant protagonist and saving the day? How about playing as the Messiah himself and saving humanity! Developed by SimulaM and published by both PlayWay S.A. and SimulaM, players will have this opportunity in I Am Jesus Christ. Walk in the lord and savior’s sandals during his simple beginnings he starts his quest of healing and miracles. The journey is not an easy one as the devil tries to thwart his plans with deception and entrapment. Satan sure works hard, but Jesus works harder.

I Am Jesus Christ leans more on a fantastical recounting of Jesus’ deeds as it’s not entirely historically accurate and his ‘powers’ are visually dramatized. Jesus and the other NPCs appear as the more Westernized version than what people would look like from first century Galilee. Throughout the game, Jesus can also be seen shooting rays of light and using telekinesis to move large objects. Jesus is not impervious to harm and mortal wounds (at least not yet) so players will need to be sure to keep an eye on his health bar. He will need to eat and pray to recharge and maintain his strength as the devil will continue to look for weakness.

Creating a game about a religious figure or just about any religion in general is tricky to do well. With so many interpretations and varying beliefs, it can be difficult to find a way to interest a broad demographic of gamers. That being said, I Am Jesus Christ seems more as an educational game used during Sunday School or for Christian education. This game does little to evoke the sense of faith and wonder that it sounds like it was aiming for. Instead, the writing and voice acting is dull, and the constant wandering and small tasks add an extra tedious layer to the overall gameplay. Not even the threat of the devil and the occasional fights on flaming grounds feel impactful.

More attention should have also been focused on the game mechanics instead of the graphics. Even on the lowest resolution and graphics setting, the visuals and controls have an odd lag. This is most noticeable in the timing between recharging and deflecting the devil’s powers in a fight. Regardless of a player’s religion or beliefs, a game should still accomplish at least one of three things. To either educate, inspire, or for pure enjoyment. With everything from the bland dialogue, unemotional voice acting, and poor mechanics, I Am Jesus Christ unfortunately fell short in its current state.

I Am Jesus Christ is planned for a Q2 2023 release. You can wishlist the game via Steam right now.

Video games have always been a huge influence in my life and have definitely shaped me to who I am today . Some of my best memories growing up were the many adventures and stories I was able to experience and become immersed in. If my hands aren't either covered in clay, typing, editing, creating, or helping shoving food in my mouth, they would either be gripped to a controller, tapping away at the screen of my phone, or clicking away on my PC. I am always up for trying something new because why live just one life when you can live many.
