Martian Law Review for Steam

Don’t you just hate it when you are minding your own business as an adorable, green, one-eyed blob when suddenly bombs start raining down from the sky? Well, that is exactly what happens in Martian Law and you must help your fellow green blobs escape to safety. Developed and published by Linclo Games, this casual arcade-styled shooter needs no exposition or origin story for you to know what you need to do. The objective is simple: shoot at the bombs, jump around, save your fellow Martians, and try to stay alive for as long as you can.

Not much is explained as to how the Martians have gotten themselves into such a predicament. Maybe the peace treaties have failed, and war was unavoidable. Or maybe the unlucky Martians are caught in-between an intergalactic resource dispute and their presence has triggered an offensive raid.  Whatever the reason may be, you must try to protect as many of your fellow cyclop blobs while avoiding being blown up yourself. Jump, dodge, and shoot your way to a higher score. The longer you can survive, the more intense the ammunition become as tiny robots and bombs the size of minivans will soon come hailing down. Ability enhancing bonuses are occasionally dropped to aid in your mission. These temporary boosts vary in offensive and defensive capabilities and can make all the difference for the survival of your kind. 

While Martian Law seems better suited to being played with controllers, it’s not especially difficult to play on your PC with keyboard and mouse. Adjusting and getting used to the movements and timing is just another way this game will try to challenge you. Once your motor functions become more attuned to playing, it’s just muscle movement at that point and you can set your body on autopilot. Unlike with a tactical strategy RPG, you won’t need to use a large amount of brain power for planning. Rely on your instincts and your competitive need to reach your next highest score.

If you are looking for something with a thrilling story, fascinating villains, and insightful character arcs, then Martian Law won’t be for you. However, if you just want to let yourself fall into the retro arcade style and a zombified gaming state, then you’ve found the right game. Slightly nostalgic, casual, and hours of carefree fun, you will soon find yourself more and more invested in saving those cute, green blobs.

PROS: The price of the game is fair for what you get, entertaining and mindless fun.

CONS: Timing/Direction of shooting is a bit awkward when using your mouse.
