Ice hockey fans, get ready!
Another one of EA’s annual sports titles, the release of NHL 20, is only a few months away. The NHL games usually release annually around mid-September, marking a spot on the calendar for video game and ice hockey enthusiasts all over the world. The current expected date of release is September 13th, with pre-order players expected to receive access as early as September 10th.
The game will release on the Xbox One and PS4 in three editions:
- Base Edition – $59.99
- Special Edition – $79.99
- Ultimate Edition – $99.99
As usual, we can expect later dates for the Special and Ultimate Editions as well as bonus items and features in the actual game. Expected features include things like early access to the game, bonus players and items, special gear and perhaps a physical collector’s item with the Ultimate Edition.
Console and Platform Releases
As for other platform releases such as the PC or Nintendo Switch, there is no definite information. FIFA and Madden 20 have both been released on the PC, so fans hope to see NHL 20 stick with the trend. As you know, EA is quite fickle when it comes to the Nintendo Switch, skipping it last year for the release of NHL 19.
Sadly, no information has yet released on the features that you can expect in the new game, but it almost goes without saying that the game will allow you to play as all your favorite real-life NHL teams such as the current odds-on favorite for the Stanley Cup, the Boston Bruins.
Leaked Information
Supposedly, leaked information appeared on Reddit recently, describing some aspects of the upcoming game. The leak comprised of an email, apparently, from EA Vancouver, that described some interesting information on the new release. Included was a description of the new cover, details on a proposed PC release, an upgrade to the Frostbite engine and evidence about a new story mode known as the “The Rink.” Some have since debunked the contents of the email, but the upgrade to the Frostbite engine has, however, confirmed to be true. A story mode is also likely given the success of the mode in FIFA and the 2K this year.
The game will have an actual reveal at the NHL Awards held on June 20, 2019, which will go into detail about expected features of the upcoming game, so fans of the NHL and NHL-based video games will undoubtedly have something to look forward.
