NUBLA Brings the Art of the MUSEUM THYSSEN-BORNEMISZA to Steam this Week

The National Museum Thyssen-Bornemisza of Modern Art and indie studio Gammera Nest announce today that Nubla, the video game that brings together the worlds of art and video games, will be released on Steam on September 6 for $4.99/€4,99. Nubla is a point-and-click graphic adventure, and arrives to computers for the first time after being released on PS4 on 2016. Critics praised the game for its ability to “capture the feel of the very museum it is based on”, calling it “a beautiful, calming game that many should try out”. Nubla received several accolades, such as the Best Art PlayStation Talents Awards and its sequel, Nubla 2 – M, the City at the Center of the World, recently published for PS4, has also received important awards like the Titanium Award of the Fun & Serious Games Festival or the recent Best Design at the Indie Prize.

Nubla is a unique video game, created as a joint project between the Museum Thyssen-Bornemisza and Gammera Nest with a goal in mind: starting a dialog between the player and the works of art of the Museum; but not as a promotional app or a piece of edutainment but as a full-fledged video game. Also, it was developed as part of Educathyssen, the educational program of the Museum, opening the world of video games to its visitors and participants — thus establishing a bridge to close the gap between games and traditional visual arts. “The museum proposed us to make a video game using its works as part of the story, not as an excuse to show them or as an art lesson”, says Daniel Sánchez, CEO at Gammera Nest. As a graphic adventure, Nubla explores the work of artists such as Joseph Turner, Max Ernst or Edward Hopper – but is also a self-discovering journey which explores topics such as the search for a place and personal identity in today’s world. To celebrate this announcement, the Museum Thyssen-Bornemisza and Gammera Nest released today the first chapter of the Developer Diaries of Nubla, where they discuss how the Museum approached this new experience of immersing itself in video games, the relation of Nubla with modern arts, and how was the creative process behind this peculiar game (see video on top).

Nubla Key Features:

  • Explore the art of the National Musem Thyssen-Bornemisza of Modern Art in an interactive experience
  • Discover the work of artists such as Joseph Turner, Max Ernst, David Friedrich, and Joseph Cornell
  • Enjoy beautiful, hand-drawn landscapes and characters with a unique art style
  • Solve puzzles in a traditional point-and-click graphic adventure experience
  • Meet all kinds of characters and talk with the inhabitants of Nubla’s fantasy world

Nubla launches for PC via Steam this week, September 4, 2019. You can wishlist the game right now.
