Post Void Review for PlayStation 4

“Post Void” is an action roguelike, boomer shooter game developed and published by YCJY Games, it was actually released on Steam for Microsoft Windows way back on August 6, 2020. The game is a very stylized first-person shooter game and reminded me a lot of the original “Doom.” It features colorful pixelated art style with flashing, hypnotic visuals and the game’s whole emphasis is mostly on speed, not the drug, although everything does look like you’re on a wild acid trip. I played the game on the PS4, while there is a PS5 version promised, it unfortunately will be released at a later date. Luckily, if you purchase the PS4 version, you are promised a free upgrade to the PS5 version.

Post Void Review for PlayStation 4

In this game, you play as a character holding his head in his hand, and his life essence is quickly draining from said head. Shooting enemies causes some white stuff to splash on the screen, which is kind of gross, but it is how you gain your health back. It continues to force you to keep moving quickly and to keep shooting. While moving through the relatively linear maps, you also have a slide to help you maneuver better and dodge bullets. The goal of the game is to run from the start to exit for each level, killing enemies to refill a constantly depleting health bar. Upon finishing each level, you are given three power-up options before proceeding to the next stage. The power-ups include “reload faster,” “change your weapon,” and “points towards the goal” Head shots are what I always strive to do, and this game makes it easy since enemies have fairly large heads to aim at. The overall smoothness of this first-person shooter makes it really fun, and shooting enemies in the head also makes them one-hit kills, and it’s just fun to do of course.

The player is provided with four different weapons and a series of upgrades which they can obtain in between levels. There are a total of eleven levels, each separated into acts of increasing difficulty. Upon completing the game, you are given a final score and that’s about it. The game can be finished in less than two hours depending on your skill level, but the addictive quality of the game makes you continually want to do better. It’s always smart for shorter games to make you want to keep playing, making you spend many more hours having fun.
I can’t stress enough how the art style of “Post Void” is truly unique, and it makes you feel like you’re high as a kite. However, if you have epilepsy, you may want to avoid this game due to its fast and colorful visuals. For a title that costs only six bucks on consoles and even less on PC with three bucks, “Post Void” is a brief yet wildly addictive game. It is easily worth the price of this little gem. Overall, if you’re looking for a fast-paced, action-packed game that will keep you on the edge of your seat, then “Post Void” is definitely worth checking out.

8/10

Gaming since I was given an original Nintendo as a kid. I love great storytelling and unique ingenuity. When both collide in a single game, I'm a happy gamer. Twitter/IG @NickNavarro87
