Spotlight by Quantic Dream and the Oslo-based studio Red Thread Games have announced that their upcoming game, Dustborn, will be released on August 20, 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series S/X, and Xbox One. The announcement was made during the Future Games Show – Spring Edition, accompanied by a new trailer featuring never-before-seen gameplay footage.
Dustborn is a single-player, story-driven action-adventure game that takes players on a mysterious road trip from Pacifica to Nova Scotia. The journey is made undercover as a punk-rock band, with Pax and her crew exploring the stunning Neo-Western landscapes of an alternate America. Along the way, they visit pit stops to recruit crew members, build relationships, fulfill unexpected assignments and fight off their pursuers.

“Dustborn builds upon our experience in creating single-player, narrative-driven projects such as Draugen or The Dreamfall Chapters. It gave us an opportunity to venture into the action/adventure genre,” says Creative Director Ragnar Tørnquist. “The game focuses on characters and their stories, highlighting the power of words. Dustborn is all about comprehending your crew, their relationships, and how what you say shapes the world around you. We are excited for players to join us on this wild road trip.”
Dustborn is a video game that follows the story of Pax, an Anomal who can weaponize language. Pax can create new words to talk her way out of dangerous situations, neutralize threats, and influence others. The game revolves around Pax and her group of misfits, including The Dustborns, a rock band. The group faces challenges such as investigations and puzzles that require their unique abilities. Players can expect to engage in action-packed combat using weaponized words, throw Molotov cocktails from a motorbike, swing a baseball bat to take down helicopters, and enjoy live musical performances. The game is set in a dystopian America and is full of unexpected situations and challenges. Players can watch the Gameplay Overview on the Future Games Show post-show to learn more about the game.
Dustborn is set to be released digitally on August 20, 2024, on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, Xbox Series S/X and Xbox One. The game will be available at the recommended price of 29.99€/$29.99. Additionally, a physical edition will be released simultaneously at a recommended retail price of 39.99€/$39.99. This special edition will include:
- 2 postcards from key locations visited by the crew;
- A map of the American Republic, listing all the pitstops the crew has to make before arriving to their final destination;
- A 32-page prequel comic book about the crew’s life before accepting this risky mission;
- Stickers of iconic elements from the game.
