The hours of rebellion are upon you, the final hope for peaceful civilization lies in your hands. Ice Code Games and 1C Entertainment’s new cyberpunk RTS game for PC, Re-Legion, shows how powerful unification can be. As players awaken the non-believers and construct their own cult, they will have the chance to overthrow the ones and restore light to a place that seems so hopeless.
Players immediately learn this battle is close to home; they are fighting against something they themselves have created. While attempting to conquer evil, they only pursued darkness further and now find their whole nation in an unrecognizable, dystopian shadow. Finding they are the only one who can erase the daunting effects that have been dealt on society, players set out to start their own cult. Defending their name, leading followers, and, of course, setting their own creed in the name of Prophet Elion. As they progress, players can choose new beliefs for their cult as well as unlock new Steam achievements. Although the game saves at monumental check points, I suggest players save avidly so they do not lose progress.
I was initially amped up not only by the compelling story but also by the futuristic graphics of Re-Legion, which paint a dystopian aftermath on a seemingly advanced city. While these graphics are extremely impressive and situate the perfect game, players will be disappointed by the controls which are far too complicated for such a fast-paced RTS. Because they are constantly converting new citizens and using special attacks, such as the Prophet’s Drone Explosions, there is ample opportunity for players to find themselves defeated because of small mis-clicks. This downfall could be corrected with a simple swap for keys instead of the point-click feature, however, this option is not available. While the concept is there, Re-Legion unfortunately falls short in execution.
To succeed in battle, players must anoint each Follower into a desired unit such as Hackers, Purifiers, Fanatics, and so forth. These units are an important aid to bringing down the Ones, so it is vital players remember to anoint their converted followers strategically. For instance, Purifiers which have increased, long-distance damage are beneficial to defeating enemies although they take a substantially larger amount of cryptocredits to create versus units such as Fanatics. Therefore, players should be cautious of their decisions and ask themselves: do I have enough? Is it worth it to create this unit now? While it might seem beneficial at the time, waiting may be a better option.
Ask citizens to subscribe to your teachings and convert them from the dark grasp of the ones. The more Followers the player converts, the better. Because they are limited in capacity, it is important to keep an eye on the number of Followers, displayed at the top right corner of the screen. As they battle against enemies, players will lose Followers so be sure to continue converting as you go. Unlike their Prophet, whose fall in battle will lead to defeat, the death of their Followers is non-fatal so simply convert more citizens to make up for lost numbers and continue pushing forth! But always be weary of your cryptocredits.
When faith seems weak, Ice Code Games and 1C Entertainment’s Re-Legion shows players forming a cult is the only logical option to once again see the light. By completing quests and conquering their wicked foes, players may have the chance to awaken citizens whose conscious has fallen captive to the control of the ones and bring down the corporations once and for all. Although the controls are stagnant, the concept is well-grounded, leaving enough room for hope in a desolate world.
Score: 6.8

Steam Review
My name is Haylee, but everyone calls me "Haylz". Gaming has been a passion of mine since my grandma bought me The Sims for PC and my love for gaming flourished from there. Currently, I'm a Senior studying English at Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi and spend most of my time gaming and leading my school through collegiate competitions as President of the eSports club! Despite being a dedicated vegetarian, my favorite games tend to be First Person Shooters and I'm naturally drawn to blood and gore! Chances are, if you can kill in it, I'll play it... I just won't eat it (unless it's a Fallout perk)!
