Rescue Party: Live!, by developer Tag Studio and publisher 505 Games, is a cute and chaotic game where you play as a rescuer tasked with saving people from disasters. You will be trained in a quick session before being thrust out into various disastrous locations, traverse dangerous ground, fight fires, build bridges, throw your team members across gaps, avoid obstacles, and more. The job is to find all the injured civilians and help them before time runs out and they perish. This game can be played by yourself for an interesting challenge or with a party of up to four players for more chaos.
When you first start up the game, it’s pretty straight forward you press a button on the title screen and go to a menu that isn’t really much to look at. You can choose story mode or online tournament to play the game, otherwise you can look through the various characters and skins you can unlock, but that becomes more relevant later on. Story mode is the main game, you can invite friends here or play solo. Either way, once you start the game, you can play through a tutorial level that will explain the basics of the game and its controls.
If you are playing solo, you will have control of two characters that you will have to swap between as some parts of the game require two people. If you are playing with at least one other person, you will just control your own characters. There is a little bit of a story line but not much, just the basic, ‘We need people to rescue these civilians from disasters.’ Rescue Party: Live! is not really about the story, though it’s about the chaos of juggling a bunch of controls and tasks, and while it is fun to play alone, it is also more challenging and can be a bit annoying. I would definitely recommend playing with at least one friend as it brings a fun kind of chaos to the mix, even if it does at times test your patience. The style of the game is cute and lighthearted even with all the panic, and the music is upbeat and lively keeping you very engaged.
Overall, Rescue Party: Live! is a fun game that anyone can play and enjoy, but like any game, it does have its issues. One of the main things is the button inputs being very touchy. Sometimes, it takes a light mis-press to throw an item across the room, while at other moments, you have a delayed input that happens a few seconds after you press the button. This can make the game extra frustrating, especially in a group, as it seems to happen more often. Another thing is that the levels could do with some pacing tweeks, namely for smaller groups of two players. Some levels are just painfully slow for two players to try to traverse together since some tasks require you to be in the same place, while other levels are too fast to be able to get through with just one other person – for example, one of the levels with the flooding water that just rises way too fast for two players. I couldn’t imagine playing that one solo as it is so difficult with even two people. So all in all the game could use a few tweeks.
Rescue Party: Live! is a fun but very chaotic game where you travers disastrous locations to rescue civilians. The game has a cute style and chaotic gameplay that reminds me of other games like, Overcooked and Out of Space. You can play alone or share the chaos with up to three other people. While the game is fun, there are a few tweeks to the game’s control inputs and level pacing that would make it better. I am giving this game an 8 out of 10 because I enjoyed playing it with my friend and it has a lot of potential to be a great chaotic multiplayer game.

I enjoy a wide variety of games from intricate survival/adventure games to simple platformers. I am also a sucker for a good story game.
