One of the most recognizable and cherished trademarks in the business, Sonic the Hedgehog, is excited to celebrate its 35th anniversary this year! Sonic’s distinctive speed, attitude, and style have defined generations since his 1991 debut. He has gone well beyond his inventive video game beginnings to create new characters and worlds, popular movies, animated television, music, souvenirs, and more. In order to create anticipation and relive Sonic’s greatest experiences throughout the previous 35 years, SEGA created a new anniversary trailer to kick off the celebrations.

In order to honor Sonic’s heritage and unite fans worldwide, SEGA will launch an exciting series of anniversary events during the following year. Digital material showcasing Sonic’s development throughout the years, fan events and community get-togethers, special brand and retail collaborations with limited-edition items, museum pop-ups and art exhibits, live concert celebrations, and a brand-new narrative podcast are among the planned events.
Marcella Churchill, Vice President of SEGA/ATLUS Brand Marketing at SEGA of America, stated, “We’re incredibly proud to celebrate 35 years of our beloved Sonic franchise with our fans. This milestone is not just a reflection of our past but also a look toward the future as we continue to innovate and grow. We want to bring our community together and create memorable experiences for all our fans throughout 2026!”
Throughout the year, more 35th anniversary-themed content, collaborations, collectibles, and fan experiences will be unveiled. For the most recent information on the year’s program, see the official Sonic the Hedgehog 35th Anniversary website.
