SENRAN KAGURA Burst Re:Newal is a hack and slash plus visual novel combination game, developed by Tamsoft and Honey Parade Games and published by XSEED Games and Marvelous USA Inc. The game has been released for PC on Jan 22, 2019 and is an amazing combination of anime-based storyline and hack and slash fun.
I remember playing the previous game on my 3DS, and it was so much fun using all the combination of attacks. It is a game basically for Anime or Japanese game lovers as the graphics are pretty much anime 3D. SENRAN KAGURA Burst Re:Newal has been controversial since the series started because of what it provides is mostly a fan service. However, on top of fan service, the game has a storyline about high school ninja girls. There are good and bad ninjas. The story starts off with one of our character fighting some bad ninjas where you learn through some tutorials and feel of the game.
The reason SENRAN KAGURA Burst Re:Newal has been controversial is mainly due to large breasted high school girls, during the fight based on the damage taken, the top clothing rip offs with the girls just fighting in their inner wears. Also the game has partial nudity rating on top of that. SENRAN KAGURA does provide a story from different perspective of good and bad ninja characters.
The gameplay is pretty straightforward – there are parts with visual novel entries and then there is a fighting side where you are in a certain area and a lot of enemies spawn that you have to fight. The girls have different skills based on different characters and weapons and there are a lot of customization options available as well. The camera can be focused on a certain enemy or you can just use the normal camera without a focus to fight and move freely. Customization options provide with different clothing options and as you move forward you can unlock new clothing for the characters.
The main bosses in each stage are tougher and aggressive as you move on and can deflect or have special attacks so there are a lot of dodging mechanics that are needed as well. Fights are pretty much seamless and fun to play around with. When you enter there is an option to go with higher attacks but less armor as you won’t be wearing any top clothing and will only go with your inner wear or swim suits. The characters have different play styles as well. So based on the character you will have to change the fighting strategy. There are block, parry, and jumping options available for different styles of attacks for all characters. Some character have faster play style than others.
Overall SENRAN KAGURA Burst Re:Newal is an amazing entry to the series including some great graphics. Even though the fighting style hasn’t changed much in the series, the game is always welcoming, especially for the fans of the series. On top of that, the Japanese voice overs are amazing. I would give this game a good 8 stars out 10.
