Developer tinyBuild announced that they raised $20k for cancer research through SpeedRunners in-game tournament with help of YouTubers.
Here is what they had to say about it,
We just raised $20k for cancer research within SpeedRunners through an in-game tournament.
Last month we launched an in-game tournament in a partnership with 8 popular Youtubers, including PewDiePie, JesseCox, and others.
People could buy a DLC pack with their favorite characters, and play as them to boost up wins that were counted towards their team. Each of the Youtubers posted videos of themselves playing… as themselves to promote the cause, and during the tournament over 500k matches were played!
The winning DLC pack sold for a total of $17k net, and we are throwing an additional $3k on top to make it $20k. The total amount is being donated to http://preventcancer.org/.
