SUPER CRUSH KO Review for Nintendo Switch

Don’t you just hate when you’re going about your life when a super-villain busts a hole in your house and hijacks your cat? It’s just the worst! Good thing Karen isn’t your average cat-napping victim—oh no…girl is rolling up her sleeves and battling for her feline friend’s redemption. Have I lost my damn mind? Maybe. But SUPER CRUSH KO by Vertex Pop is overflowing with pizzazz and nonstop action, the words are flying off my fingers faster than our supergirl can swing her fists!

SUPER CRUSH KO Review for Nintendo Switch

As this is my maiden review on the Nintendo Switch console, I had my trepidation in objectively analyzing the mechanics of this run n’ gun brawler, but it pleases me to say that the controls are pretty intuitive. The stress of Chubbz’s abduction gets the ol’ heart racing right off the bat, overwhelming me with the fear that I might have absolutely no idea what I’m doing. But these developers have you covered; learn what button to push when and what does what as soon as the need arises. They hold your hand with the controls longer than most, especially for such a fast-paced title, so the learning curve is pretty swift. Acquire new smackdown combos quickly and gear up with futuristic firepower as you rock ‘em, sock ‘em, and blow the combative robots out of way—you have a kitty to save!

SUPER CRUSH KO Review for Nintendo Switch

I don’t really have any major gripes, but I have to toss in a bit of spirited complaining to give you the full picture. First of all—bear with me here—Karen’s super-powered gun gives me the maniacal giggles. My neighbors don’t appreciate this, but I think it’s great…probably my favorite part of the game is just how fun it feels to blast away the bad guys. My bummer with it? Overheats way too quickly, but they do warn you from the very beginning to use this machine with care, still though, let me live in my bubblegum-pop Robocop fantasy for just a little longer. Second and slightly more legitimate complaint is the grading system is not initially clear. I eventually figured out that you have to remain impressive at all times if you want to annihilate the level with a letter grade your mom would be proud of. Laying down that robot murder game with a combo or two is cool and all, but the judges remain unimpressed if you refrain from pugilism for too long, so just keep swinging and shooting.

This vibrant girl-power street fighter is simple, yet absurdly fun. Moral of the story? Always be prepared for someone to steal your cat. But let’s be honest…a cat would not do the same if the shoe was on the other paw.

Rating: 9/10.
