Twitch and Instagram Stars Launch InstaQuest, the D&D Campaign Set in Mixed Reality

InstaQuest Utilizes an Immersive Mixed Reality Environment for the Brand-New Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook Live Series, Backed by Popular Creators ZombiUnicorn, TheSushiDragon, Darth Lexii, and Alex Drastal

Los Angeles, CA – July 8, 2020 – Producers Parker Howell, Jay Stone, and Joseph Bohan unite with popular Twitch streamers ZombiUnicorn, TheSushiDragon, Darth Lexii, and Alex Drastal to launch InstaQuest, the live-streamed Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game (RPG) series with a twist: players unite inside a mixed reality fantasy world that brings their story to life around them while they play.

The popular cosplayers and gamers will drop colorful characters in an augmented world where taverns and dungeons alike appear in an immersive digital environment, and where high-powered enemies and masterminds face off against the motley crew of players in real-time.

The first season will premiere on Saturday, July 25 at 1PM PST on their Twitch channel HERE, YouTube channel HERE, and Facebook channel HERE. While the series streams live, each episode will be reformatted episodically for streaming on InstaQuest’s online channels.

Role-playing games (RPGs) like Dungeons and Dragons are making a massive resurgence in popular culture while the billion-dollar eSports industry continues to grow it’s global audience. Tabletop games like D&D, however, suffer from a lack of compelling visual content, failing to perform at the highest levels on live-streaming platforms like Twitch. To solve the problem with added creative flair, InstaQuest transformed D&D into a mixed reality game show, where the Game Master generates spontaneous quests for armor-clad players in a real-time adventure. Masterful VFX brings the traditional theater of the mind to the screen.

Says cast member Alex Drastal,

“You get to be something you’ve never been. It’s like writing a book in real time. It’s my favorite way to be creative, and I can’t wait to share it with the world.”

“It’s as much about conquering your inner demons as it is about overcoming the digital ones,” adds Howell. “As proud as we are of all the technical wizardry that’s gone into InstaQuest, the show is ultimately all about the players and the story they co-create. We’ve got a team of rising superstars, self-created artists who’s characters reflect their real life archetypes. The light, the dark, the sublime, the chaotic–the only way for them to move forward is to realize the alchemy of their fellowship.”

The screen comprises over 600 square feet of projection mapping with over 24 Million individual pixels. Using Unreal Engine, InstaQuest built the visual elements of the show inside of a game engine to bring the world to life. Game Master Joseph “Jobo” Bohan crafted a complex outline, full of potential storytelling outcomes, creating with the team an elaborate system to steer the players through their narrative labyrinth.

“Tabletop RPG storytelling balances exploring an open-world sandbox with keeping players ‘on the rails’ to meet the GM’s plot–hopefully without players knowing they are being steered in a certain direction. We endeavor to follow this philosophy using Jobo’s experience as a GM by preparing game elements to be triggered based on the choices the adventurers make. This means we are creating scenarios with certain enemies, digital assets, and spells that may never make it to the screen during the show.”

Season 1 Campaign:

A regal Barbarian, an explosive Artificer, a Druid with a wild side, and a Ranger with a love for all that’s cuddly and cute have joined the Adventurer’s Guild in pursuit of fortune and glory. However, with each new quest they take on, they descend deeper into the political frenzy of a world at war over dwindling energy resources. Competing imperial regimes vie for the allegiance of the ragtag adventurers. It is up to the players to decide who to trust and which path to take. The consequences of each action last throughout the entire campaign, and will ultimately decide the fate of heaven and earth.

Cast & Characters:

TheSushiDragon: Launching his Twitch career streaming Overwatch with an archetypal green screen setup, TheSushiDragon quickly paired his hilarity and over-the-top on screen personality with real-time special effects, turning his streamer house into his own mixed reality studio. Contraptions on his arms and legs allow him to manually pick special effects, like time stops and slow-downs, and switch scenes on a whim–especially useful for one of his many dance routines for his 141K subscribers. TheSushiDragon will be playing the mysterious Artificer and will be working with his Twitch channel to help craft his character’s details.

ZombiUnicorn: One of the best quality streams on Twitch and beyond, boasting 220K Twitch followers and 208K YouTube subscribers, ZombiUnicorn puts on an engaging show with a genuine and ridiculous sense of humor. Watch her intoxicating, unfiltered and interactive gaming, creative and IRL streams for a good laugh and some fun voice acting. She also hosts a casual podcast about the internet world called ‘Zero Notifications’ and some of HolyCrit’s tabletop RPG shows. She will be joining us on our adventure as the witty yet reserved Ranger. While she has a love of animals, it doesn’t always translate to a love of people.

Darth Lexii: Lexi is an actress and model who has filtered her passion for nerd culture into cosplay by creating the online persona: Darth Lexii (Inspired by the Star Wars Villain Darth Maul). Utilizing her marketing skills, she’s become a well known cosplayer in the nerd industry through working with brands like Doritos to modeling for Her Universe and Hot Topic with their Avengers Endgame and Black Widow clotheslines. Her mission is to spread positivity and laughter because, “even the smallest person can change the course of the future” — Queen Galadriel. She will accompany this quest as a Druid unlike any other. Lexi describes her character, “Her backstory isn’t the only thing that’s twisted. I wouldn’t upset the balance of nature with this one.”

Alex Drastal: A self-described “actor, cosplayer, medieval reenactor and all around massive Dork,” Alex shot to cosplay stardom on Instagram with his larger-than-life recreations of anime and fantasy characters from shows like Dragon Ball Z, My Hero Academia, Witcher, One Piece, and many more. He follows the US con circuit and regularly makes Top-10 lists for his detailed creations. He will be joining us on our adventure as the Mighty Barbarian! JoBo: A veteran game master with over 10 years of experience running games, JoBo is taking up the mantle of Dungeon Master for InstaQuest. A longtime fan of actual play content, he sought a way to make the format more visually appealing to a wider audience. As creative lead on the project he has worked with the cast and crew to make an imaginative original campaign world come to life in the virtual world.
