Unravel the mystery of how his famous Archaeologist father disappeared 10 years ago by solving puzzles and gaining inventory and information in Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town, developed by imaginarylab, and published by VLG Publishing. This point-and-click third person adventure set in a pirate themed town, is loaded with clues about Willy’s dad’s disappearance. Some of the clues are very subtle, and some of the scenes require a lot of time to figure out exactly what the clues mean.

This game certainly makes you spend time thinking about a situation for awhile until you’re able to decide what items to combine, or which piece of advice means what. The player is allowed to see which items they can interact with in order to solve parts of the puzzle, but they aren’t allowed to see how each item interacts with each other.

A lot of combinations aren’t possible, and after you try them out, Willy will interrupt with some funny commentary about why items can’t combine. He will also tell stories about some of the items the player can interact with that don’t have a purpose or anything to fix or collect from that point. I almost wish that there were some hints involved in the game. I got stuck several times and tried about every combination to combine items in my inventory, but I still had no idea how to get the last wheel off the wall in the bedroom, so that made it a bit frustrating in terms of the non-linear gameplay.

There are mostly only preset phrases that are spoken when an object is clicked on, so it limits the amount of options for what needs to happen. I would go back and try to finish the missions in the game, but it requires a certain amount of patience in order to play a game like this in a continuous session.

Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town is a fun game, but it’s a very niche game that would most likely appeal to mostly gamers and people who play puzzle games regularly and love to be challenged mentally while playing. If you enjoy doing escape rooms, this would also be a great game for you as a player, because you have to find clues in several rooms before you can leave the house. I wasn’t able to leave the house yet because I got stuck on building the last part of the bicycle. Unless you’re just naturally good at seeing every subtle clue, this game is going to need some time commitment and concentration in order to get through it smoothly. I do think that it’s worth it to commit to this game; it is a great chance to challenge yourself and keep your mind sharp while also having fun playing and figuring out different inventory combinations and solving a mystery at the same time. Even though I got stuck on a lot of parts of this game, I still enjoyed playing and appreciated that it challenged me mentally, so I’m giving Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town an 8 out 10.

It's kind of like getting to become a new person every time you play a game.
