MINNEAPOLIS AND LONDON – May 18, 2016 – Award-winning veteran games developer and international games label Team17 has revealed that Worms W.M.D. will launch globally at retail through its distribution partners, Sold Out and U&I Entertainment. The game will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC later this year.
Worms W.M.D. features a fresh new look, 2D cartoon-inspired worm, as well as gorgeous hand drawn landscapes. For the first time ever, players will use exciting new vehicles and enter buildings, adding new strategic elements of gameplay to the traditional wormy warfare.
Fans will take to the skies and rain down bullets on the worms below using a helicopter, or traverse across landscapes in warfare-ready tanks, helping players move more quickly, protect worms, and fire a barrage of shots.
Worms W.M.D. offers players an extensive single player mode with training, campaign and challenge modes. Fans can also bring the fight online and compete in friendly multiplayer matches with room for up to six players and eight worms each on a map, all with the essential feel of the classic Worms experience.
CEO of Team17, Debbie Bestwick, said,
“After recently celebrating Team17’s 25th anniversary, 2016 marks 21 years for the Worms franchise. Besides making lots of us feel old, we listened to our loyal fans to create what we believe is the definitive Worms experience in W.M.D. Fans will now also be able to pick the game up in boxed form from retailers around the globe”.
“U&I Entertainment is eager to introduce Worms W.M.D. to loyal fans of the Worms series as well as to a new generation of gamers in North America,” said Martin Hawk, CEO, U&I Entertainment. “Developer Team17 continues to expand the Worms universe and is set to deliver a fresh new take on a familiar series.”
