The creator-led, multi-platform entertainment business Skybound Entertainment, which is responsible for the massively successful video game franchises The Walking Dead, Invincible, Impact Winter, and others, has released a new story trailer for its acclaimed independent game studio, Osmotic Games (Orwell), called Closer the Distance. On June 10, a demo of this intricate, narrative-rich slice-of-life simulator will be released at Steam Next Fest.
Check out the Closer the Distance story trailer:
You will take on the role of Angela in Closer the Distance, a little child from the quaint little village of Yesterby who dies in a terrible tragedy. Angela, who is trapped in limbo, soon learns that she has the capacity to telepathically affect the people she has left behind. Take an emotionally charged journey of love, sadness, catharsis, and hope as you uncover the stories at the center of this broken community and use your ethereal abilities to mend strained relationships, reveal long-kept secrets, and assist the living in moving on.
Angela can engage with a variety of completely simulated and intricately detailed characters, each of whom has unique emotional states, desires, memories, and intricate relationships that change over time with or without your help. Because of the profound effects of your decisions on the people of Yesterby and the course of their adventure, every playing is distinct and absorbing. Can you aid the community of Yesterby in healing and paving a more promising future?
Ian Howe, Managing Partner, Skybound Entertainment stated, “Closer the Distance is a truly unique slice-of-life sim, exploring some existential questions about the impact an individual’s life has on others. The team at Osmotic has crafted a compellingly thoughtful narrative, providing players with the tools to interact with a carefully constructed world and truly influence its characters.”
Daniel Marx, CEO and Game Director, Osmotic Games stated, “Our studio was formed to explore new ways to convey complex narratives in video games, so after the success of our debut title, Orwell: Keeping an Eye On You, we looked at how we could push the medium further. Closer the Distance is the result, and by merging life simulator mechanics with a thought-provoking, narrative-driven experience, we’re allowing our players to ponder and contend with challenging themes, layered with an undercurrent of hope, empathy and kindness.”
