Chrono Odyssey, developed by Chrono Studios and published by KaKao Games, is an open-world MMORPG with a focus on action-adventure. Overall, the graphics of the game look phenomenal, with a couple of issues stemming from bugs and a few graphical issues. The game overall feels like it is more action-oriented and taking some of the gameplay formula from other pre-established action genres. However, those fans of the MMORPG will feel like the game has changed too much, and while it can be seen as negative, people will need to understand that the genre has not seen too many changes and can only be done in only a variety of ways, so change is always inevitable.
As for the game itself, it is mostly focused on the action in terms of combat, quite similar to action-based games, with the RPG (roleplaying game)-based mechanics being relegated to the background. This can be seen in tacking on the MMO (massive multiplayer online) genre aspect to the game, especially from how buggy the test was. The main issue is the various bugs that are present in the game, ranging from graphical issues that can occur with the lighting that might cause some players medical problems due to the lighting bug. Moreover, while there have been many games with this issue, so with time and effort the lighting issues should be gone before the game fully releases. As for how this could have passed quality control, it can be surmised that the team did not have enough available manpower to do this in retrospect and opted to test the game while using the game engine during development. This is quite similar to another game with such issues, such as Fallout 76 at launch, where the game had so many bugs it took the team a solid year to fix them all and address other problems that made the game barely playable. So, with time and effort from a dedicated team of developers, any game can reach a playable state and become a genuinely fun experience. Other than that, one major issue that needs to be addressed is the involuntary PvP (player versus player) through the use of explosive barrels. Player versus player is usually seen in games to test another player’s skill or gear or to have bragging rights, yet the use of a single barrel to wipe out a squad of players just going about their time feels awful, as it’s just plain trolling and can impact the game’s player base as a whole. The only other well-known case of involuntary PvP was from the hit game Runescape, where players died in large quantities in the Falador Massacre, while on a completely different scale of players involved, it showcased how one-sided PvP is never a good thing. As for those unfamiliar with the Falador Massacre, the YouTuber rswillitmissit covered the event in this detailed youtube documentary. And to summarize the documentary, it details how one glitch caused certain players to kill players in safe zones, preventing those who got killed from fighting back in a one-sided massacre. As for how this draws comparisons to the barrel issues in Chrono Odyssey, the inability to fight back or to respond is what matters. From the players’ perspective, it just feels unfair to be unable to defend yourself from someone capable of killing you and able to do so at their own pleasure.
The game has a lot of promise and has a lot of potential, but these are just a few issues that need to be addressed at the start and in the long run. Chrono Studios needs to have more time to develop the game of their dreams and needs to do some more testing to reach it. To truly stand out in the gaming world today, they need to break the mold and push past contemporary fads and make their game truly theirs. This can be said for many games, but each and every game nowadays needs to take some risks to experiment with testers on how to bring their games to new heights. Chrono Odyssey is no different and needs more time to fix itself to reach its true potential.

I would describe myself when interacting with games as a strategist with a pension for stealth and loud explosions.
