Dolmen is an Action RPG game, which is set in a futuristic science fictional world. Dolmen is developed by Massive Work Studio and published by Prime Matter. Dolmen mixes Lovecraftian cosmic horror with science fiction. The game is a single player experience that also features up to four player online co-op for boss fights (boss fights only).
Dolmen’s gameplay is similar to Souls-like games, where the player has Health, Stamina, and in addition to the above two, there is an energy bar. Stamina is utilized when doing any physical actions like sprints, attacks, block and dodge. Energy is used when using long ranged weapons, there are multiple long range guns that have different elements, and also energy is expanded when players try to recover some health in exchange.
On top of these weapons, there are special abilities that allow players to use melee weapons to create element based attacks with mid range. Just like a Souls game, when a player dies they leave all the nanites and Dolmen fragments, which are used to level up players at the ship. The player will have to reach that previous death location to retrieve the items before dying the second time or else the items will be lost.
Dolmen also allows players to craft and equip the armors and weapons. There are unique monstrous aliens available and our character is sent to the planet to retrieve Dolmen fragments. During the initial phase, players will be provided with red spots through the map that provide some tutorials and help grasp the concept.
Once, after a certain point during the initial phase, players will be able to teleport to our ship from one of the hubs that also acts as spawn points after death. And on ship, players can use nanites to update the specific attributes.
For now, the UI for menu items and inventory is very basic, but since this is a very early preview build, the game will have a better UI over time. The graphics are also very interesting, and currently do not support full 3440×1440 but there are other graphics and RTX options also available that players can tweak for a better experience.
Overall, combat is very interesting and allows you to adapt to the attack types of creatures, and is a very satisfying part of Dolmen. Dolmen is an amazing experience and it seems to have a lots of potential, which players can explore, and I would definitely recommend players to give it a try, especially the Souls game players.
