Ebenezer and the Invisible World Demo Impressions for Steam

Introduction/Information about game

The game Ebenezer and the Invisible World is a game that is planned to release in the future, however the game has a demo available on Steam right now. This game is a 2D Metroidvania platformer adventure game where players will play as Ebenezer Scrooge, who has turned into a hero after the events of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” (which is what this game is based on). They will end up enlisting the help of ghosts around London and must save London before it gets taken over. I enjoy Metroidvania games very much, and playing this game was surprisingly nice. I will admit, at first glance, I thought it was strange that game developers made a game based on “A Christmas Carol”, especially a Metroidvania, so it was quite a surprise for me to actually enjoy the game somewhat. My first impressions of this game is that it was fun and that the developers are on the right track for development.

Gameplay

The gameplay for Ebenezer and the Invisible World is simple and fun. The player will start out as Ebenezer Scrooge who must venture out in London to face off against spirits, as well as some other enemies that will stand in his way. The basic controls of the game allows the player to move, dodge, and attack. The game tells the player how to do everything except attack, but it was easy to figure out how. As the player starts the game, they will be visited by a spirit who will tell them that they must go to save London from the wealthy industrialist known as Caspar Malthus. As the player ventures out to the streets of London, they will encounter people protesting, as well as their first enemy. Once the player whacks them with their cane, they will continue onwards. As the player continues their journey through the streets of London, they will encounter spirits along the way. Some of them will be ready to attack the player, so they must be ready to be on the attack themselves. However, not all of these spirits will be bad. The player will end up encountering good spirits as well, who will also need the player’s help. Helping out these spirits will end in them returning the favor and giving abilities to the player that will help them progress through their journey. Player’s must use these abilities to help save London.

Final thoughts

Overall, I believe the game Ebenezer and the Invisible World is a surprisingly fun game that the game developers are on the right track for. As I said before, I was thrown off at first when I saw that the game was a Metroidvania based off of the Christmas Carol. However, when I played it, it seemed surprisingly well made and fun. If you are the kind of player who enjoys Metroidvania games and enjoys the classic characters of the Christmas Carol, then I would recommend trying out the demo of this game. Players can download the demo of this game on Steam
