In the past few years we have seen some amazing RPG games that take you through some interesting experiences. Especially Disco Elysium, which brings some amazing gameplay mechanics and different ways to play the story. Gamedec, developed by Anshar Studios and published by Untold Tales, had a similar feel to that particular RPG. Gamedec is available on Windows and Nintendo Switch.
Gamedec starts off with introducing players to the current world. And introducing Gamedec as the Game Detectives who help solve cases in a modern world with a bit of technological advancements. Gamedec/Game Detectives are not very much liked by others in the world and need careful planning when dealing with people.
Story introduces the concepts of different skill points and gaining different skill points by carefully navigating the conversations with NPCs. To unlock skills, the player will need to accumulate a combination of different skill points, which allows players to use additional dialogues during the conversations and gain additional information.
Another interesting feature is that on top of skills and gaining knowledge, different information can be unlocked to gain a path forward, in the case that is visualized in the skill tree. There are different answers unlocked for some questions that come up during conversations with NPCs, if you carefully steer the conversation with the NPCs to get all the information. This allows players to take the next steps. One recommendation is to try talking to all the NPCs possible before moving forward and deciding on the forward path.
There are two different worlds, one is the real world, where we talk to NPCs and the other is like a metaverse/virtual world where the player will enter into a game to find out additional details regarding the cases by talking to other players.
The style of gameplay is top down similar to any RTS game and it is not an open world game as it will move players between the required locations. Graphics are fine and works great for the Nintendo Switch console.
Some things that hold the game back are the story itself is not that great and players will lose focus as we play through the game and there are some very annoying bugs that have made me replay certain sections of the game over and over again just to get through those parts.
Overall, Gamedec does have some amazing features, which work in the game’s favor and wants you to replay the game to try out different ways to play the cases. But bugs are the biggest problem with the game.
I would like to give Gamedec 8 out of 10.
