HumanitZ Review for Steam

HumanitZ is a top down open world survival game set in a world ended by the zombie outbreak. You play as a survivor of the zombie apocalypse and you must pave the way for the future of humanity. Explore this post-apocalyptic world, gathering resources, crafting items, building your base and more. You can even try to take on this adventure with your friends. Will you make it out of this catastrophe alive or will you succumb to the apocalypse like those before you?

HumanitZ Review for Steam

When you start the game, you can customize your character and select a profession, each profession giving you a different skill to help you out. There are eleven professions in total and they give you advantages ranging from being 25% more effective with medical times, dealing 300% more damage with your unarmed combat, gaining more meat from hunting animals, and more. When you first load up a new world it asks if you want to play the tutorial area which I recommend as it is very helpful. The tutorial is a bit lengthy but does a good job at introducing the many different aspects and intricacies of the game, it starts off with the basics of survival such as movement and combat, then it works up to the more in depth tasks such as building and using vehicles. Overall, the tutorial area is a nice secluded place where you can learn how to play the game without needing to actually worry about surviving until you are ready and have learned what you need. The game plays like many other survival games; the only big difference is the top down style instead of the standard first or third person camera angle. The basic controls are WASD to move, Q and E to rotate the camera, the character will look in the direction of the mouse, and space to vault over objects or climb. Left click is used to go into attack stance and fire weapons, right click is to go into standby mode and aim your weapon. Tab is used to open your inventory, and F to pick up or interact with objects. You can craft in a separate tab of your inventory or while using a workbench, and make sure to keep an eye on your vitals in the lower left side of the screen. After you complete the tutorial area you are free to start up your world and pick a spawn point, each area having its own advantages and disadvantages. With that you start your survival journey in this post apocalyptic world.

I found a few issues while playing; First, there was a resolution issue where the game was cut off down to the right of the screen. I believe it was just an issue with the gaming opening in windowed mode as when I put the game in full screen and then switched it back to windowed mode it fixed itself. Another thing I will mention is that while overall the tutorial area is very well done there are a few times where the prompts would disappear too quickly or the explanation was unclear making some sections a little confusing. For example when building you have to still have the build mode open to actually place the items into the build on the ground that was not explained, that and the fishing prompt went away too quickly for me to read and understand what to do at first. Overall not too many issues and they were relatively easy to resolve.

HumanitZ is an open world survival game where you can try to live through the zombie apocalypse. You are a survivor of the zombie outbreak and you will need to gather materials, upgrade stats, craft items, and build your shelter. You will also need to find and trade with traders for rare materials, fix up vehicles to help you traverse and more. There is a lot for you to explore in this top down apocalyptic adventure that you can play with your friends. I can’t wait to see what the full release has in store.

HumanitZ is available for PC via Steam.
