KurtzPel Sacred Guardian Update & Impressions

KurtzPel Sacred Guardian Update & Impressions

KurtzPel is hidden gem among the free to play items on the Steam marketplace. I had the chance to play it for the first time this past weekend just in time for some major updates. I feel so spoiled, because this update was my introduction to the series. If you are new to KurtzPel, this title is an anime inspired action MMORPG with real time combat notably well-received among fans of PvP and PvE playstyles. The series and its lore are continuation of the legacy of GrandChase, and its only growing and becoming more substantive.

The game also feels very tailored to your preferences. When building a character, you take a Meyers-Briggs personality test, and I couldn’t help but wonder what function it actually has in the game. I had to do a double take at my character, because it affects your resting stance. It’s a subtle thing, but I like that a lot. Something to make your character expressly your own.

While playing with devs, we tried out a 2v2 deathmatch. We also forged ahead in a survival mode, taking care of waves of boss types. We took our custom characters to the field of battle, and I think I held my own pretty well. It was my first time in the arena setting, and I already felt acclimated to how the game works. It’s current build supports customizing keybinding, which can be an issue depending on which part of the world you’re from or what you’re used to, and the field of view (FOV) is no long obstructed by debris or obstacles.

I really appreciate that the majority of purchasable items that I saw were cosmetic. We all know that skins equal wins on the proving ground, so we might as well look good while we’re slaying it (or are getting slayed ourselves). The game is all about skill, knowing how to roll with your karma/class and how you can work with your team (or smash your enemy) in the best way possible. Looking good is only half the battle. Character affinity with the story’s NPCs also unlocks benefits, like their costume. It’s awesome to have something attainable by simply playing the game.

Of course, along with character affinity, we are introduced to Lime, a character from a time period earlier on in the series. She is associated with her cleric like properties, such as an affinity for two handed weapons and a manifestation of healing arts. She and her Sacred Guardian karma appear to be a support class but could be built to deal respectable damage (I type while staring at the hammer). You can view her affinity progression and rewards here.

I encountered very few problems while playing on the test version of the game. The only notable issue was a few seconds of lag at the start of the demonstration. I was warned about some glitchiness, but it all seemed well in hand. The devs have a very flexible, yet meticulous, view on addressing errors. I was under the impression that the majority of fixes were proactive, but I was impressed to learn that feedback from demonstrations, like the one I took part in, are approached in real time. The patch notes don’t lie; you can see how much effort the devs put into this title. You can really tell this is a great community too. To my surprise again, this community is localized across the globe with members from Brazil to Russia and from the United States to Korea. I don’t think you will have a shortage of people to play with anytime soon.

If your also interested in tournaments and events, KurtzPel won’t disappoint you. Just taking part in a classic 2v2 battle for sport, I had the impression that friends and enemies alike will surprise you with their abilities and knowledge of the game. Even the most unassuming role can make a difference on stage, leaving players and audiences slack jawed. I have been privy to such wombo combos out of left field, and I can only imagine what more competitive and creative gamers can think of next.

I like to think of myself as the average Joe who grew up alongside video games. I have fun playing strategy games, RPGs, shooters, sandboxes, the whole shebang! Every game provides an experience whether it strikes you as profound, mundane, or someplace in between. I'd like to weigh in my two cents before you spend a single penny.
