Ocean Drive Studios Booth Impressions at PAX East 2025

We checked out two games at Ocean Drive Studios at PAX East 2025 this year.

Section 13:

Section 13 is an exciting roguelite twin-stick shooter featuring four unique playable characters: Agent Red, Boy Scout, Beaker, and Scalpel, each offering a distinct playstyle. Players are immersed in a randomly generated underground dungeon network where they explore levels and seek to uncover the truth. Gameplay emphasizes dodging, aiming and shooting, melee combat, and utilizing throwable items. Survival requires strategic use of tools and techniques to defeat zombie hordes, such as employing distraction items, using torchlight to stun specific zombie types, and discovering various data to unravel the narrative.  

During the exploration, players will have a chance to encounter certain parts of the dungeon that are procedurally generated. Section 13 is currently available for PC via Steam Early Access and definitely a treat for players with a taste for roguelite games. Definitely recommend playing this with a mouse, though, since it can get a bit tough to aim with controllers.

Lost Eidolon: Veil of the Witch

Lost Eidolon: Veil of the Witch, a spin-off of Lost Eidolon, blends turn-based strategy RPG mechanics with roguelite exploration. Players navigate a randomly generated path, encountering player cards, currency, NPCs, and combat ambushes. The journey is divided into acts, each progressing along the random path. Campsites offer social interactions for strengthening party members and their bonds.

Inspired by Fire Emblem, combat unfolds on a tile-based grid. Each character has unique attack patterns with melee or ranged capabilities. Reinforcements can increase the difficulty, making strategic retreats sometimes necessary. Players must utilize all available tactics to succeed. Currently available for PC via Steam Early Access, Lost Eidolon: Veil of the Witch is recommended for fans of turn-based strategy RPGs.
