We checked out Indie.io Booth at PAX East 2025, and tried out a couple of games, Shrine’s Legacy and Voidsayer.
So, first up we checked out Shrine’s Legacy. If you’re all about those classic SNES action RPGs, this one really stood out. Think Secret of Mana, but it’s doing its own unique thing, not just copying it. The 16-bit graphics are really appealing.
People were really enjoying the co-op, teaming up with a friend was a hit. Even solo, switching between the characters felt smooth. The combat looked fun and quick, and there’s this cool elemental magic system for fighting and solving puzzles, which is a nice touch.
Honestly, everyone seemed excited about it. It didn’t feel like a clunky retro attempt; it looked polished, and the characters were immediately likeable. Definitely one to watch if you want a great old-school adventure that still feels modern. There was a lot of positive feedback from PAX East for this game!
Voidsayer, a dark fantasy monster-taming RPG blending Pokémon mechanics with Darkest Dungeon’s atmosphere, releases on Steam June 2nd, 2025 (demo available). Players are Seekers capturing unsettling Entities in an Abyss-consumed world, navigating dreary, Gothic horizontal maps with hidden paths and a strategic curse meter. Combat is turn-based with type effectiveness and diminishing move efficacy, encouraging varied tactics. The challenging core loop involves exploring dangerous, procedurally generated environments for Entities and resources, managing survival, and base enhancement. Developed by SGO Studios and published by indie.io, Voidsayer offers over 100 unique monsters and procedurally generated adventures, presenting a demanding, darker RPG experience despite some minor interface concerns.
