Nocturnal, an action platformer game, was showcased this year at PAX East 2023, by developers Sunnyside Games and publisher Dear Villagers.
Nocturnal has some unique gameplay mechanics that smartly ties into the story of the game. Our protagonist returns to his island and finds the island covered in mysterious fog, and the only way to get through the fog is utilize the fire in unique ways to uncover the path forward and reveal the secrets hidden.
The Protagonist is pitted against some human enemies and, as the story moves forward, players will have to fight against some undead-like monsters. These monsters can only be killed with fire, which players can add to their steel sword using the nearby torches to light on fire. Also, there is a time limit on how long the sword will be engulfed in flames, and players will have to light new torches and reset the timer on the sword. There are also new skills that players can unlock after reaching the statue/altar, which allows you to utilize the skill points on certain skills.
