The Last of Us Part II Remastered Upgrade Path is Confusing Players

The Last of Us Part II Remastered is available for preloading. This is the best way to hop right into the action when the release goes live on the 19th. If you already own the game, then things maybe a bit more confusing for you. If you’ve already got it downloaded, then you won’t be given any options, as you already own and have the game installed locally on your hardware. Even if you don’t have it downloaded already, you won’t be given the option to purchase the game.

The Remastered version is supposed to come to those who own the game for no more than $10. It’s weird that we can’t pre-download the game since when searching for the game it only shows the remastered version and tells you that you can’t purchase it because you own the game.

If you attempt to select “Manage Game Content” from the options’ menu on the PS5 home screen, things get even more confusing. It will begin to show DLC for the remastered version as already being downloaded. What DLC, you may ask. DLC for The Last of Us Remastered on the PlayStation 4 as seen below.

Some of the same problems existed with Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy being taken over by the new Remastered version when that debuted on the PlayStation 5. I wish Sony made this more clear. There are already so many games that have both PS4 versions and PS5 versions available for download and purchase. What is the reason they’re doing this with their flagship series?

If you want to use the upgrade path you will have to wait until launch day. This means you won’t be able to preload the game on your PlayStation 5. If you’re using the disc from the PlayStation 4 version, then you will need to insert the disc into your PlayStation 5 every time you want to boot up the game.

I, personally, can’t wait until this is available. The gameplay for The Last of Us Part II was fantastic, and I really want to see how the new No Return mode will change the way it plays with its gameplay modifications. I’ll be playing on this for a while. I just wish preloading it was so much easier.

Is there anyone else excited, but confused by this? Sound off in the comments…
