The Smurfs 2 – The Prisoner of the Green Stone Review for Steam

The Smurfs 2 – The Prisoner of the Green Stone, by developer OSome Studio and publisher Microids, is the colorful and fun sequel to The Smurfs: Mission Vileaf. Handy Smurf has created a new invention that requires the power of the Green Stone, but while attempting to retrieve said stone from the infamous Gargamel it shatters into pieces and is dispersed throughout the land. Now you must embark on an adventure to save the world from the chaos imposed on it by shards of the Green Stone, monsters, puzzles, and so much more awaits you. Will you save the world or will it fall to the evil Stolas?

The Smurfs 2 - The Prisoner of the Green Stone Review for Steam

When you start the game, you are told the story of how Handy Smurf created a new invention called the SmurfoMix that makes baking so much easier. However, after much use, the SmurfoMix seems to need repairs so Handy takes a look at Papa Smurf’s spell book without his permission. In it, he finds out about the Green Stone, which can create anything using its magic, but, alas, the Green Stone is in the hands of the greedy Gargamel. So, with that, Handy Smurf and his friends, Brainy Smurf, Storm, and Dimwitty, set off to find the Green Stone. That is when you start to play the game; you play Handy at first as you jump around through Gargamel’s house to find the treasure you seek. You can also double jump and dash to help you get around. Once you find the stone, Handy taps it with a hammer and it shatters releasing the evil Stolas, during which Gargamel and his cat Azrael come to investigate the ruckus and find the Smurf crew has broken the Green Stone. It’s too late however as Stolas takes the Green Stone and escapes through a portal. After much debate Gargamel and the Smurfs decide to form an unlikely alliance in order to set things right. Now you will embark on a journey through the land to uncover the pieces of the stone, along the way you will use the SmurfoMix to destroy crystal patches that are corrupting the forest as well as to destroy monsters that wish to stop you. Along the way you will unlock different abilities and upgrade your weapon to make your adventure a little smoother. This game is best played with a controller so keep that in mind before you play. You can, however, play with keyboard and mouse as well. Overall, this is a fun adventure game especially perfect for you if you are a fan of the Smurfs.

This game has some much needed improvement from the first game, the graphics have been improved and the controls are more fluid. However, there are a few issues I had that I will mention. The gameplay gets a bit repetitive as you go on and the enemies don’t change. At first it was cool to see the different enemies pop up here and there but I expected different areas to have slightly different enemies, but this was not the case. That, and while the overall graphics and cinematics are better quality, the overall world doesn’t feel as magical and Smurphy as the first game.

The Smurfs 2 – The Prisoner of the Green Stone is a fun action-adventure Smurf game where you must save the world. An unfortunate mishap involving the Green Stone leads to an unlikely team up between 4 Smurfs and Gargamel, where you must use his knowledge and guidance to help your team find the stone shards and stop chaos from taking over. Fight enemies, upgrade your weapon, complete challenges, and explore the world along the way. I am giving this game an 8 out of 10 because despite the repetitiveness of some of the enemies and gameplay I had a lot of fun playing.

Score: 8/10

I enjoy a wide variety of games from intricate survival/adventure games to simple platformers. I am also a sucker for a good story game.
