Virtual Reality is one of the biggest developments in the area of entertainment technology in recent times. Most people who are into gaming and have gaming devices like PCs or consoles are now veering towards virtual reality headsets. Brands like Oculus, HP and HTC are coming out with VR headsets that have cutting edge technology like cameras and tracking devices that even take into account your surroundings.
Companies like Facebook have already started accepting VR as the next big thing by heavily investing in it. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has apparently started buying up VR game studios which are probably much more engaging than popular games like Minecraft about which you can read here. But one of the greatest games that has hit the VR world in recent times is Half Life Alyx. This is the third installment in the Half Life series and it took the developers 13 years to work on this. The company Valve that released the game has also released their own VR headset called Valve Indes which apparently sold a record number of units because of those game. Much of the gaming community has come together to acknowledge that Half Life Alyx is perhaps one of the greatest games ever. Let’s find out if this statement is true.

Virtual Reality Game Play
Half Life Alyx has a gameplay that has never been seen before. The player is completely immersed in a whole new world and one has to use his or her own hands to do things. The best part is that one can even control each finger using the controllers. You can pick up objects like beer cans and even crush them in your hands and throw them at your enemies. You can even use your hands to open doors and walk through things. There is VR room scale support which means that players can move easily and more freely within their space and also jump from point to point through teleportation.
The Game Plot
Half Life Alyx is supposed to be set in a world five years before Half Life 2, which actually makes it a prequel. The protagonist of the story is not Gordon Freeman but his ally Alyx. The mission is to go deep into a world infected by aliens to steal their superweapon. The graphics are out of the world and the narrative starts moving into a metaphysical realm like only a game like Half Life can. There are lots of conversations in this game so it makes everything more personal and compelling. It seems the game ending was rewritten after a few testers told the developers that it wasn’t gripping enough.
Reception of the game
Half Life Alyx became one of the fastest selling VR games ever. In America itself, all of Valve Index headsets were sold out within days of the game’s release making them one of the fastest selling headsets of all time. The game has definitely overtaken the popular Beat Saber and received many rave reviews including this one here.
By now it’s clear that Half Life Alyx is a game changer in the world of entertainment. Now we just have to wait and see what other brilliant games will follow this one.
