Ghostrunner, a great first person platformer that came out back in 2020, released a new DLC called Project_Hel, which provides some additional prequel story to one of the best boss fights in the game. Ghostrunner is developed by One More Level, 3D Realms, Slipgate Ironworks and All in! Games, and published by 505 Games.
We reviewed the original game when it initially came out on PC and PS4. The original has been a great fun that added a lot of mechanics with fast paced action and platforming skills either is wall-jumping or one-strike killing the enemies. The most important skills were with movement that includes wall running and dashing in mid air.
Project_Hel extends that gameplay with an upgraded protagonist. Overall, the DLC is still the Ghostrunner with platforming and one-hit kills. But the protagonist is stronger at the start as Hel, who is out for vengeance. Just like the boss fight in the original game, Hel has stronger jumps. This gives the player a sense of distinction from the original game protagonist. Also, Hel has additional power-ups such as for every kill she gets a rage meter that allows the player to utilize some ultimate skills.
Even though the player feels the power of the new protagonist, the game is balanced enough for some challenging gameplay. But because the huge teleportation dash also changes the game in a great way.
Going back to the original game feels a lot under-powered, though, and will definitely let players itch for more after the DLC is completed. Devs have done a great stuff. Even though the DLC campaign feels short it still provide some great addition to the overall gameplay. On top of that, the graphics have always been amazing for the Ghostrunner and utilizing the ray tracing brings the game’s visual to the next level.
Overall, Ghostrunner’s Project_Hel is an amazing addition and I would rate this a solid 8 out of 10.
