Hello Neighbor 2, developed by Eerie Guest and tinyBuild and published by tinyBuild, is the second installment of the popular Hello Neighbor game that was released back in 2017. Much like the first game, it is a stealth strategy game about digging up your neighbor’s dark secrets. You play as a journalist investigating cases of missing children in this odd town, it is your job to uncover the secrets and mysteries to get to the bottom of these cases. Will you be able to discover the hidden truth of this horror game?
When you start the game, you are investigating this abandoned barn, the roof breaks and you fall in losing your camera in the process. You are then taken through the tutorial phase where you are taught the basic controls and movement. After you successfully retrieve your camera, you are introduced to this odd bird-like creature that jump-scares you. At which point you wake up having fallen asleep while driving to this town, eventually you make it to your little house to find that it is barricaded. Now starts your journey of running through the game trying to find tools to help you along your investigation.
The first area you are actually able to go to is a house with a policeman investigating, the part also feels like a tutorial, but more along the lines of showing you how the houses and AI work so that you will be ready for your encounters with your neighbor. One of the most interesting things about this game series is that the AI learns from how you play, meaning that the neighbor can end up surprising you when it does things that it did not do at first. It also adds a more challenging and fun element to the game because often in horror games the thing chasing you becomes boring because it always does what you expect it to do after learning the patterns, here that does not happen. There are also a lot of secrets and details in Hello Neighbor 2 that can be pretty easy to miss so make sure to keep your eyes open. This game has potential and is a very fun and interesting concept with cool mechanics.
While Hello Neighbor 2 has the same charm and style as the first game, it is not without its fair share of bugs (keeping in mind that it is in Beta). I had a hard time navigating through the areas due to things like falling through floors and other collision issues. On top of that the game does not give very clear direction on where to go or what to do. You are just kinda left to figure it out on your own, which can be frustrating at times. Another thing is that the movement is a bit touchy, which is not unlike the first game’s movement style though so it may be just personal preference. All that being said, though, Hello Neighbor 2 full release is scheduled for December of this year so they have time to fix up and polish this game as it goes on. So while there is a mass amount of bugs, I am not gonna hold it against the game as a whole.
Hello Neighbor 2 is an interesting horror game where the AI learns from how you play. It is the sequel to the popular Hello Neighbor game that came out a few years ago. Much like the first game, the objective is to uncover the secrets of your weird neighbor and get to the bottom of several missing persons cases. It features interesting game mechanics as well as plenty of secrets that can often be overlooked. This game has the same charm as the first game, but is not without its bugs. Disappearing walls and falling through floors is not uncommon right now. However, there is time to fix up the game before its full release in December and, by the time it comes out, it could be a completely different experience. Right now, though, the game is still fun and interesting even though it needs some polishing. I look forward to seeing where this game goes by its release.
