Introduction/Information about game
The game Super Dungeon Maker by developers Rokaplay and FIRECHICK, is a game that, initially released in February 2022 for Steam, and later released on the Nintendo Switch in May of 2023 this year. This game is a dungeon creation sandbox where players can create dungeons filled with monsters and puzzles using the dungeon maker. For me, playing this game was very nice. I enjoyed using the dungeon creation to create dungeons as well as play the first tutorial dungeon that was provided. After playing this game, I would say that this is not only a fun game to play, but a very nice tool to use for people to create different dungeon levels.
Gameplay
The gameplay for Super Dungeon Maker is primarily a tool to create dungeon levels. To start out, however, the game will start the player out in a premade dungeon. This way, the player can understand how the game will play when people actually play their newly made dungeon. The player will control the hero, which is a chicken, and start out with a sword, which they can use to attack monsters with by pressing the attack button. Of course, the dungeons aren’t just about taking down monsters. They are also for solving puzzles. There are many different types of puzzles. Some puzzles will involve having to get a key. Other puzzles will involve having the player checking their surroundings. There are even puzzles where the player will need to find and use an item, such as bombs.
Once the player reaches the golden egg, they have completed the dungeon. Upon completing the tutorial dungeon, the player will appear in the hub world of the game. This is where they will explore and start to learn about creating dungeons, as well as how to make them. To learn how to create dungeons, go up to the sandbox in the hub area. There, the player will learn how to properly use the dungeon creation. The dungeon creation has many different items and tiles available. Players can start by creating floors and walls for different rooms and floors. There are a variety of floor tiles and wall tiles to choose from. Once the base is created, players can start adding monsters and items for puzzles, as well as doorways and stairs, if they are needed. Once players get a full understanding of the different tiles and items they have, they can start creating dungeons to their heart’s content.
Final thoughts
Overall, I believe the game Super Dungeon Maker is a fun game, as well as a great dungeon creation tool. As someone who is studying game design, it was a very nice pleasure to see how this game can be used as a level designing tool for dungeons. If you are the kind of player who enjoys creation, dungeons, or level design, then I would recommend getting this game. Players who are interested in playing this game can get it on Nintendo Switch, as well as on Steam.
