Lovecraft's Untold Stories Review for PlayStation 4

Lovecraft’s Untold Stories is developed by Blini Games and published by Badland Publishing. The game is a traditional 2D pixel style RPG Game – it reminds me of some old school games that I used to play when I actually started gaming.

Lovecraft’s Untold Stories puts you into the world by first selecting a character. Each character provided in the game has different skills and actions available to them. Once you choose the character, you are provided with some details about the situation and then the level puts you through some obstacles that provide you with some tutorials on how to work the controls.

The environment feels spooky and horror-filled; initially, there is nothing that you can shoot at except for the crates and then there are a lot of hidden items and collectibles. Once you enter the mansion, that’s where the fun begins, as the rooms are randomly generated but somehow connected to each other. You can encounter anything, including an empty room, room with items, and traps or enemies. And the game feels like the enemies mostly are cultist who like to do a lot of blood baths. Each room gives out a really creepy feeling, as there are some kinds of symbols in most of the rooms.

The enemies have different patterns and skills that need a bunch of dodging and countering skills. Each level is designed to be cracked not by just simply moving around but needs certain items that unlock the last room that lets you fight the final boss. Each level has randomly generated rooms that changes every time you go back. The important part about Lovecraft’s Untold Stories is that every room you go through either has resources and materials or lets you nteract with certain items. Unluckily every time I tried to interact with certain items and based on the responses that I gave, I lost certain amounts of sanity.

There are certain effects during the battle as well that the player gets including bleeding, which pretty much starts with the player losing amount of health that can be stopped by bandages or healed with potions. The controls have been set up extremely well as it gets really easy to use the controller.

Overall, Lovecraft’s Untold Stories is a great combination of RPG and Horror feel it gives even though it does not scare you. In addition, playing the levels dragging along fighting and searching for a long time starts getting really tiring. But the battle and exploration feels great as long as it lasts. I would rate this game 8 stars.
