THE HAND OF MERLIN Review for Nintendo Switch

When I was younger I used to play role-playing games on Gamecube as well as other consoles. The Hand of Merlin, by developers Room C Games and Croteam and publisher Versus Evil, brought me memories of playing RPG games and how these types of games in the old days and current days get me excited to play.

THE HAND OF MERLIN Review for Nintendo Switch

When I started playing The Hand of Merlin, it had a very interesting storyline taking place in medieval times. There were three characters named Berber mercenary,  Tariq al-Ash’ab, and Hermetic survivalist Isabel of Orreaga. The game involves three brave heroes embarking on a journey from Albion to Jerusalem where the Apocalypse is taking place. The three characters fight bad guys and monsters that are attacking the innocent civilians or when a battle or invasion is taking place. When I started playing the first attack with Morgan it was kind of a realization of how an RPG game works and knowing how I should take care of these characters when it comes to fighting monsters, avoiding the bad guy’s attacks, and buying the right weapons and materials in the game, as well as keeping their health secure and powerful when helping them fight the enemies and protect the lands in the game. Throughout The Hand of Merlin, battles kept getting tougher, and with more strategic thinking on the battlefield, I made a discovery in each fight when I lost or knew what the enemy tricks are.

This is what an RPG game should look like and I really like the fact that it takes place in medieval times. Going through challenging battles I had to do a lot of thinking about what to do with the characters and how I should attack. I also learned how to avoid the attacks and also purchased weapons and new merchandise with my gold coins to help gain more power from any of the 3 characters that are in the game. In addition, I really enjoyed the graphics of the character design and the animation throughout the game.

The only criticism that I have in The Hand of Merlin is the limited amount of attack points I had in order to make a move or attack on each character that caused me to sometimes start over again, which I know can happen to any of these fights.

Overall, The Hand of Merlin feels like a great RPG game. I feel like it is still a popular genre to a lot of gamers that had an amazing trilogy when it started and that this game had an amazing storyline and character traits for the 3 heroes that are supposed to protect the lands.

8/10
